7th Charlotte Area Know Your Farms Tour Announced: Celebrate the Agricultural Wealth of the Charlotte Region!
Know Your Farms, along with partners NC Cooperative Extension, and the 10% Campaign, proudly announce the seventh Know Your Farms Tour will take place over the weekend of September 27-28, 2014.
The Charlotte Area Farm Tour takes place from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. both days and highlights 13 local farms in 5 counties. Now that choosing local food products has become a priority for so many families, the tour provides the opportunity to make those important farm-to-fork connections and discover sources for fresh, healthy food in the greater Charlotte community. With their barn doors open to the public, these local farms provide great learning opportunities and a fun, enjoyable time spent in the country for all.
The 2014 fall tour features a diversity of local farms, including fruit and vegetable growers, livestock producers, ostrich, and even an alpaca farm! Over half the tour stops are first time farms on the tour and seasoned tour-goers will have a lot to see. In addition, many farms will be offering fun activities unique to the tour, such as hayrides, learning about animals and bees, pick a pumpkin, and participating in activities with farmers such as tapping molasses. Food and other farm products will also be sold at the farms. Details can be found at knowyourfarmstour.com/farms.
The 2014 fall farm tour is supported by Lineage, Cartwright Chiropractic, Dojo Body Mind, and Silverstream Creative Group.
The Charlotte Area Farm Tour is self-guided, and farms are located in clusters all around the Charlotte region for easy touring. The tour cost is $25 in advance per vehicle. Entrance tickets may also be purchased on tour days for $30, available at every tour farm. A FREE TOUR PASS is available to current and retired military with ID and farm tour volunteers.
The Farm Tour is held with the generous help of approximately 100 volunteers and volunteers are still needed to sign-up. Help by doing a shift as a "Farm Host" greeting tour goers, or in a pre-tour role promoting and planning the tour.
