Wordful Wednesday: Domestic Violence Awareness #domesticviolence #awareness

The photo is enough to make anyone upset or angry and realize how sad domestic violence is.
It is never ok, never to solve your problems by abusing your partner! Get help, it is not your fault, you are a victim, not the reason for the abuse. No woman (or man) deserves to be abused, bullied or verbally assaulted !

Warning Signs:Is this abuse?
  • Telling you that you can never do anything right
  • Showing jealousy of your friends and time spent away
  • Keeping you or discouraging you from seeing friends or family members
  • Embarrassing or shaming you with put-downs
  • Controlling every penny spent in the household
  • Taking your money or refusing to give you money for expenses
  • Looking at you or acting in ways that scare you
  • Controlling who you see, where you go, or what you do
  • Preventing you from making your own decisions
  • Telling you that you are a bad parent or threatening to harm or take away your children
  • Preventing you from working or attending school
  • Destroying your property or threatening to hurt or kill your pets
  • Intimidating you with guns, knives or other weapons
  • Pressuring you to have sex when you don’t want to or do things sexually you’re not comfortable with
  • Pressuring you to use drugs or alcohol
If you answered ‘yes’ to even one of these questions, you may be in an unhealthy or abusive relationship. In this section, you’ll find all sorts of information on different forms of abuse. Don’t hesitate to chat or call us (1-800-799-SAFE) if anything you read raises a red flag about your own relationship or that of someone you know.

  1. It's good that you enumerated them, as one will not be able to shrug off all those things when they know they’re actually signs of an abusive relationship. It goes without saying that none of those are okay, as those actions call for taking away one’s freedom. Thanks for sharing those signs, and providing the number for the hotline!

  2. Someone we know could be a victim of domestic violence. And for some reason, many would rather stay quiet and let these things past. Like you said in this post, ‘No woman (or man) deserves to be abused, bullied or verbally assaulted!’ Thank you for sharing this with us. I hope it reaches a lot of people, and be of help to the victims of domestic abuse.
